Con ganas de celebrar el bicentenario de Colombia aquí recojo información sobre algunos eventos y colecciones que se han organizado en Colombia y virtualmente. ¡A celebrar se dijo!

El proyecto Libro al Viento se ha asociado con la Biblioteca Luis Ángel Arango (BLAA) para traer varias biografías sobre los grandes de Colombia al público en general. A diferencia de otras publicaciones, esta colección de bicentenario también se ofrece en formato digital. Los tres títulos de la colección son,“¡Viva la Pola!”, “¡Soy Caldas!” y “La antorcha brillante” (biografía de Antonio Nariño).

La BLAA también está organizando otros eventos que se llevan a cabo en la biblioteca. Si visita la BLAA encontrara varias exposiciones sobre el bicentenario, incluyendo “Palabras que nos cambiaron: lenguaje y poder en la independencia”, “La caricatura en Colombia a partir de la independencia” (esta incluye recorrido virtual), y “Habeas Corpus: que tengas [un] cuerpo [para exponer].” La biblioteca también organiza el XV Congreso Colombia de Historia que se llevara a cado del 26 al 30 de julio de 2010. Además tiene otra página que recoge artículos sobre la independencia de Colombia y otros países suramericanos. Y como si todo esto no fuera suficiente también tiene un blog donde están recogiendo noticias sobre más eventos del bicentenario.

El ministerio de cultura también tiene una cantidad de eventos programados, al igual que una cantidad de colecciones en línea que están disponibles para todos. Vea aquí 200 años de historia Colombiana, escuche la música que hemos gozado por dos siglos. Vea los Diálogos de la Independencia; aquí encontrara una seria de videos por tema de una cantidad de historiadores tratando varios temas de la historia Colombiana. 1810: Independencias al Aire recoge 22 capítulos de una serie radial recrea algunos de hechos históricos y de cotidianidad Colombiana. La pagina titulada Centros Municipales de Memorias tiene un mapa interactivo que le dará mas información sobre las celebraciones que se llevan a cabo en cada localidad. La Línea de Tiempo le mostrara imágenes y otra información de los últimos doscientos años, década por década. La Agenda de Celebraciones le dará más información sobre 32 eventos que se llevan a cado a lo largo y ancho de la nación.

El sistema de BiblioRed está organizando un ciclo de conferencia que trata nuestra historia, y algunas que tratan la historia de las comunidades indígenas. Todas con entrada libre. El Museo Nacional monto una cantidad de colecciones en línea que tratan el tema del bicentenario. Aquí encontrara Carteles, cartillas, y radio. Y aquí hay una lista de los eventos que se llevan a cabo en Bogotá.

Eager to celebrate the Colombia’s bicentenary I’ve gather some information about events and collections that have been organized in Colombia and virtually. Let the celebrations begin!

The Project Libro al Viento has partnered with the Luis Ángel Arango Library (BLAA) to bring several biographies of the great men and women of Colombia to the general public. Unlike other publications, this bicentennial collection will also be offered in digital format. The three titles in the collection are, “¡Viva la Pola!”, “¡Soy Caldas!” y “La antorcha brillante” (biografía de Antonio Nariño). The BLAA is also organizing other events that are being held in the library. If you visit the BLAA you’ll find several exhibitions on the bicentennial, including “Palabras que nos cambiaron: lenguaje y poder en la independencia”, “La caricatura en Colombia a partir de la independencia” (this includes a virtual tour), and “Habeas Corpus: que tengas [un] cuerpo [para exponer].” The library also organizes the XV Congress on Colombian History that market will take 26 to July 30, 2010. It also has another site that features articles on the independence of Colombia and other South American countries. As if all this were not enough it also has a blog where you can get more news about other events of the bicentennial.

The Ministry of Culture also has a number of scheduled events, as well as a number of online collections that are available to everyone. See Diálogos de la Independencia, here you will find a series of videos by subject of a number of historians discussing various topics in Colombian history. 1810: Independencias al Aire contains 22 chapters of a radio series which recreates some of the historical facts and daily realities which make up our history. The page entitled Centros Municipales de Memorias has an interactive map that will give you more information on the celebrations that take place in each location. The Línea de Tiempo will show images and information of the last two hundred years, decade by decade. The Agenda de Celebraciones will give you more information on 32 events that are taking place across the nation.

The BiblioRed system is organizing a series of conference on our history, some dealing with the history of indigenous communities. Admission to all these conferences is free. The National Museum mounted a number of online collections that address the bicentennial. Here you will find posters, brochures, and radio audio. And here is a list of events that are taking place in Bogotá.

Colombia Aprende is an educational site created by the Colombian Ministry of Education which aims at offering access to educational tools to anyone who has access to the web. The site has been up and running for 6 years, and by now gathers over 20,000 resources, and has over a million visitors every month.

Information on the site is divided into a number of categories to facilitate searching. Resources span all levels of education, from elementary education to college, to advance research. Each category will offer activities, additional links (Labeled Edusitios), and resources appropriate for that level of education. Some of the resources I found in the various Edusitios were great – I found Atlas de las Culturas Afro Colombianas, Inglés para todos, and Expediciones Botánicas del siglo XXI among many others.

There are also a number of virtual forums  under the section titled Enrédese, designed to connect users and provide a space for the discussion of ideas and collaboration (this section requires you to register with the site). The section titled Docentes Publican offers a place where participants can share their publications.

This site also offers a calendar of events including activities that have an educational purpose. There are a few more section which are currently under construction, including a wiki, a blog, and a few more places which propose educational competitions.

Colombia Aprende es un sitio educativo creado por el Ministerio de Educación que tiene como objetivo ofrecer acceso a herramientas educativas para todo quien tenga acceso a la web. El sitio funciona hace 6 años y hoy reúne más de 20.000 recursos y tiene más de un millón de visitantes cada mes.

La información del sitio se divide en una serie de categorías para facilitar la búsqueda. Los recursos abarcan todos los niveles educativos, desde la educación primaria, a la universidad, y para la investigación avanzada. Cada categoría ofrecen actividades, enlaces adicionales (bajo el titulo de Edusitios) y recursos adecuados para cada nivel de educación. Algunos de los recursos que encontré en varios Edusitios incluyen – el Atlas de las Culturas afro colombianas, inglés para todos y Expediciones botánicas del Siglo XXI, entre muchos otros.

También hay una serie de foros virtuales bajo el titulo de Enrédese, estos están diseñados para conectar a los usuarios y proporcionar un espacio para la discusión de ideas y la colaboración (esta sección requiere que usted se registra en el sitio). La sección titulada Docentes Publican ofrece un lugar donde los participantes pueden compartir sus publicaciones.

Este sitio también ofrece un calendario de eventos que incluyen actividades que tienen un propósito educativo. Hay varias secciones adicionales que se encuentran actualmente en construcción, incluyendo un wiki, un blog, y algunos lugares más que proporcionan concursos educativos.

RevisteroVirtual.com is a relatively new site that offers online access to a number of major Colombian magazines. The site, which launched in 2009, offers access to about 30 titles, including M2M, Semana, Revista Dini, Jet-Set, Dinero, Revista de Logística, El Malpensante y Mobiliari.

To use the site you will have to create an account, but access to most (not all) the magazines is free.

RevisteroVirtual.com es un sitio relativamente nuevo que ofrece acceso en línea a una serie de importantes revistas colombianas. El sitio, lanzado en 2009, ofrece acceso a cerca de 30 títulos, entre ellos M2M, Semana, Revista Dini, Jet Set, Dinero, Revista de Logística, El Malpensante y Mobiliari.

Para utilizar el sitio que usted tendrá que crear una cuenta, pero el acceso a la mayoría de revistas (no todas) es gratuito.

This Argentinean artist, Raul Lemesoff, has transformed an old car into a mobile library. His rolling library named Arma de Instrucción Masiva ( Weapon of Mass Instruction) aims are spreading peace through literature.

It sometimes seems to me that the phrase “Without Borders” has become a franchise; I think the first one was Doctors Without Borders (Medecins sans Fronteires), but now there are a whole bunch of them.

Libraries Without Borders are affiliated with the French based Bibliothèques Sans Frontières and they supports “education in developing and disaster affected areas by providing children, students and adults access to well-equipped, up-to-date and efficient libraries. Access to knowledge is a key factor in social and economic development.” Both are currently working to save and rebuild Haitian libraries.

Reporters Without Borders advocate for freedom of the press, have been producing a Press Freedom Index since 2002, and which is updated yearly. (Here’s the most recent one, 2009; The Wikipedia entry is actually easier to read.)

Scientist Without Borders “aims to mobilize and coordinate science-based activities that improve quality of life in the developing world.”  They have put together a database which helps users with complementary projects to find one another and collaborate. Technology Without Borders works to “develop, customize and service Information Management Systems for non-profit organizations, and educational institutions…”

Engineers Without Borders “facilitates links and collaboration among its member groups toward improving the quality of life of disadvantaged communities worldwide through education and implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while promoting new dimensions of experience for engineers, engineering students, and similarly motivated non-engineers.” Builders without Borders gathers “ecological builders who advocate the use of natural, local, and affordable materials in construction.”

Teachers Without Borders help promote free and open education by supporting “teachers in their desire to collaborate in order to address pressing community development needs.” Sociologists Without Borders encourages sociologists to “participate, democratically, with others to set standards for human wellbeing and devote our energies to understanding how to achieve these standards.”

Lawyers Without Borders works to “protect the integrity of legal process, serve the underserved, and promote the culture of pro bono service in the legal profession- all with a neutral orientation.” MBAs Without Borders believes that “business can do amazing things and when channeled appropriately, it can have an incredible lasting impact in communities.”

There are even Clowns Without Borders and Magicians Without Borders! Both work to offer laughter and magic to all persons, but especially children in refugee camps, conflict zones, and war torn areas.

Now if all of these “Without Borders” organizations would just join forces we would be well on our way to truly making an impact and helping eliminate all those social ills that keep so many in poverty, ignorance, and sickness, and which could be fix if the world’s politicians would only readjust their priorities.

There are plenty more of these and new ones will probably sprout up before I hit “publish”, so here’s a small sampling of a few more. Theatre Without Borders / Designers Without Borders / Acupuncturist Without Borders / Soccer Without Borders / Astronomers Without Borders / Chemists Without Borders / Cinema Without Borders / Executives Without Borders / Friends Without Borders / Bees Without Borders

A veces me parece que la frase “Sin Fronteras” se ha convertido en una franquicia; Creo que los primeros fueron los Médicos Sin Fronteras (Médecins Fronteires) pero ahora hay un montón de ellos.

Bibliotecas sin Fronteras están afiliadas a la institución francesa Bibliothèques Sans Frontières y apoya “la educación en áreas en desarrollo y zonas afectadas por desastres proporcionando a los niños, estudiantes, y adultos acceso a bibliotecas bien equipadas, eficientes, y con material relevante. Ya que el acceso al conocimiento es un factor clave en el desarrollo social y económico”. Actualmente las dos organizaciones se encuentran trabajando para salvar y reconstruir las bibliotecas de Haití.

Reporteros sin Fronteras abogar por la libertad de prensa y han venido produciendo un indice de libertad de prensa desde el 2002, el cual se actualiza anualmente. (Aquí está el más reciente, 2009; La entrada de la Wikipedia es más fácil de leer.)

Científicos sin Fronteras “se propone movilizar y coordinar actividades basadas en la ciencia para mejoran la calidad de vida en el mundo en desarrollo.” Ellos han elaborado una base de datos que ayuda a los usuarios con los proyectos complementarios a encontrarse los unos a otros y colaborar. Tecnología sin Fronteras trabaja para “desarrollar, y personalizar y dar servicio a sistemas de información de gestión de las organizaciones sin fines de lucro, e instituciones educativas …”

Ingenieros Sin Fronteras “facilita vínculos y colaboración entre sus grupos asociados para mejorar la calidad de vida de las comunidades desfavorecidas de todo el mundo mediante la educación y la implementación de proyectos de ingeniería sostenible, fomentando al mismo tiempo nuevas dimensiones de la experiencia de los ingenieros, estudiantes de ingeniería, y motivado de manera similar con otros que no son ingenieros.” Constructores sin Fronteras reúne “constructores ecológicos que abogan por el uso de materiales naturales y locales, y económicos en la construcción”.

Maestros sin Fronteras ayudar a promover la educación gratuita y abierta mediante el apoyo a “los docentes en su deseo de colaborar para hacer frente a las apremiantes necesidades de desarrollo comunitario.” Sociólogos sin Fronteras anima a los sociólogos a “participar, democráticamente con los demás para establecer normas para el bienestar humano y dedicar nuestras energías a la comprensión de cómo lograr estos estándares”.

Abogados sin Fronteras trabaja para “proteger la integridad del proceso legal, para sirvir a la gente de escasos recursos, y promover la cultura de servicio pro bono en la profesión legal, todo ello con una orientación neutral”. MBA sin Fronteras considera que “las empresas pueden hacer cosas asombrosas cuando canalizadas apropiadamente, y puede tener un impacto increíble y duradero en la comunidad.”

¡Incluso hay Payasos sin Fronteras y Magos sin Fronteras! Ambos trabajan para ofrecer sonrisas y un poco de magia a todas las personas, pero especialmente a los niños en campamentos de refugiados, zonas de conflicto, y las zonas asoladas por la guerra.

Ahora bien si todos estas organizaciones “Sin Fronteras” se unieran estaríamos en buen camino para realmente tener impacto y ayudando a eliminar todos los males sociales que mantienen a tantas personas en la pobreza, la ignorancia y la enfermedad,. Todos males que podrían ser corregir si los políticos del mundo simplemente reajustaran sus prioridades.

Hay muchas más de estas organizaciones y probablemente brotaran mas antes de que de “publicar” a esta entrada, así que aquí tiene una pequeña muestra de unos pocos más. UCLA has three grants for people interested in using the holdings of the Latin American collection on campus. Awards of up to $1,500 will help candidates with transportation, lodging, and meals.

The folks from BiblioRed were so kind as to send me some additional images of the two libraries I visited, the Biblioteca Pública Parque El Tunal, and the Biblioteca Pública Virgilio Barco, and I wanted to share them. They also send me some great facts about the library systems. Thank you!

• During 2009 BibloRed received 4,437,945 visitors, who used 7,314,052 items.

• Programs promoting literacy and writing spread to 176,920 users, during the course of 8,927 activities. Culture Advocacy programs reached152,263 attendees.

• Between 2003 and 2008 177,238 people have joined the library network; in 2008 alone 21,425 users joined BiblioRed; 46,610 renewed their membership; and 357,707 items were lent out.

• BiblioRed holdings spans more than 370,000 volumes, including the, children, general, literature and audiovisual collections of seven libraries; all of which can be checked out.

• Membership is free for children under 12 years of age and has a cost of 5,000 pesos for members 13 years or older.

• Every day BiblioRed lends out approximately 1,000 items to a variety of different audiences.

La gente de BiblioRed fueron tan amable de enviarme algunas imágenes adicionales de las dos bibliotecas que visité, la Biblioteca Pública Parque El Tunal y la Biblioteca Pública Virgilio Barco, y quería compartirlas. También me enviaron algunos datos muy interesantes sobre el sistema bibliotecario. ¡Gracias!

Today I spent the day at the Parque Biblioteca España – Santo Domingo Savio. I had read about this library before in the NYT, and was fascinated to see that Colombia was developing a great public library systems.

The library has been running for three years now, and was initially build with a grant by the king and queen of Spain (hence the name of the library). A while later the prince of Spain made another donation, this time it was 1500 books for the library. These donations, added to the award the library won from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have ensured that the library’s collection is very complete, and well stocked in terms of technology.

While visiting the library I learned that the library has two main computer rooms, one for adults and one for children, each one staffed with a library assistant that can help users with their work. The collection is also divided between adult and children’s sections. The children’s section is full of the usual library material, but also includes a games room where there is always a staff member to supervise the children. There are also several community rooms, and a large auditorium residents can sign up to use.

While there I was surprised to see just how many people where using the library, while there was a total absence of graffiti or any other kind of vandalism. The entire building is spotless, a true sign that the community has completely embraced their new library and have incorporated it into the community.

In the three years that the library has opened apparently crime has gone down in the neighborhood, and there is a marked rise in the number of locally owned business in the area. Santo Domingo Savio used to be known as a hot bed for crime and gang activity, but now it’s famous for its library!

And if all of this isn’t enough to make you want to visit the library, consider that to get there, you have to ride the MetroCable! This is part of Medellin’s metro system and the only example in the world where a gondola lift system has been implemented for public transportation. The views from the MetroCable are absolutely beautiful, and it’s probably one of the best places to see all of the city from above.

And hey, you might even run into a local child who will offer to tell you the history of the library and its impact on the neighborhood for a small donation. The child who approach us had a very complete and well memorized speech about the library. And when I tried to ask a question in the middle of his talk, he vehemently let me know that he wasn’t taking questions until the end! I did eventually find out that he does use the library on a regular basis to complete homework assignments.

03\16\2010 – Correction, Caracas, Venezuela just opened a metrocable, and there is another one under construction in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Hoy me pasé el día en el Parque Biblioteca España – Santo Domingo Savio. Ya había leído acerca de esta biblioteca en el NYT, y estaba fascinada al ver que Colombia estaba desarrollando sistemas de bibliotecas públicas increíble.

La biblioteca ha estado funcionando durante tres años, e inicialmente se construye con una donación por el rey y la reina de España (de ahí el nombre de la biblioteca). Un rato después el príncipe de España hizo otra donación, esta vez fue de 1500 libros para la biblioteca. Estas donaciones, sumadas a la adjudicación que la biblioteca se gano de la Fundación Bill y Melinda Gates han asegurado que la colección de la biblioteca sea muy completa y bien provista en términos de tecnología.

Durante mi visita a la biblioteca me enteré de que la biblioteca tiene dos salas de principales de computadores, una para adultos y otra para niños, cada una dotada con un auxiliar de biblioteca que pueden ayudar a los usuarios con su trabajo. La colección está dividida entre las secciones de adultos y niños. La sección de niños está llena del material usual, pero también incluye una sala de juegos donde siempre hay un miembro del personal para supervisar a los niños. También hay varias salas comunitarias, y un gran auditorio que los usuarios pueden usar para organizar eventos.

También me sorprendió ver cuántas personas estaban en la biblioteca, cuando a la misma vez había una ausencia total de grafiti o cualquier otro tipo de vandalismo. Todo el edificio está impecable, un verdadero signo de que la comunidad ha adoptado por completo su nueva biblioteca y la han incorporado a la comunidad.

En los tres años desde que se abrió la biblioteca, la delincuencia ha descendido en el barrio, y hay un marcado aumento en el número de empresas de propiedad local en la zona. Santo Domingo Savio solía ser conocida como un semillero para la delincuencia y la actividad de pandillas, ¡pero ahora es famoso por su biblioteca!

Y si todo esto no es suficiente para que desee visitar la biblioteca, consideren que para llegar ahí, ¡usted tiene que viajar en el MetroCable! Este es parte del sistema de metro de Medellín y el único ejemplo en el mundo donde se han usado un sistema de telecabina para transporte público. Las vistas desde el MetroCable son absolutamente hermosas, y es probablemente uno de los mejores lugares para ver toda la ciudad desde arriba.

Y oye, incluso podrías encontrarse con un niño del barrio que ofrezca a contarle la historia de la biblioteca y su impacto en el barrio por una pequeña donación. El niño que se nos acerco tenía un discurso muy completo y muy bien memorizado acerca de la biblioteca. Y cuando traté de hacer una pregunta en la mitad de su discurso, ¡con vehemencia me hizo saber que no iba a responder preguntas sino hasta el final! Al final logre enterarme que el niño usa la biblioteca regularmente para completar las tareas escolares.

Paradero Para Libros Para Parques

Monday morning I was out walking around downtown Bogota when I happened upon this lovely little library in the park. This stand makes part of the Paradero Para Libros Para Parques (PPP), a program created about 10 years ago to help promote literacy across the country. The program is part of Fundalectura in association with city parks.

Currently there are 47 PPP in various neighborhoods of Bogota, and a total of 100 across the country. Each stand is staffed for about 12 hours a week by volunteer (they do receive a small stipend, but apparently it isn’t much).

The PPP are often open during the weekend and while in service they offer regular library services. Patrons can check books out, and the person staffing the PPP organizes activities (mainly for children), is available to answer questions, and often help children with their homework.

El lunes por la mañana estaba caminando por el centro de Bogotá cuando me encontré con esta pequeña y encantadora biblioteca en el parque. Este puesto hace que parte del Paradero Para Libros Para Parques (PPP), un programa creado hace como 10 años para ayudar a promover la alfabetización en todo el país. El programa es parte de Fundalectura en asociación con los parques de la ciudad.

Actualmente hay 47 PPP en varios barrios de Bogotá, y un total de 100 en todo el país. Cada puesto presta servicios a la comunidad más o menos por 12 horas a la semana y funcionan con la labor de voluntarios (entiendo que reciben algún pago, pero aparentemente no es mucho).

Usualmente los PPP estan abiertos durante el fin de semana y ofrecen servicios de biblioteca. Los usuarios pueden sacar libros, y el personal de la PPP organiza actividades (principalmente para los niños), está disponible para responder preguntas, y muchas veces ayudan a los niños con sus tareas.

Today I went to visit a couple of the libraries that make up the BiblioRed in Bogota. BiblioRed is Bogota’s public library systems, and it’s composed of a number of large, and small libraries, as well as a bibliobus. Today I went to visit the Biblioteca Pública Parque El Tunal, and the Biblioteca Pública Virgilio Barco, both of which are considered “bibliotecas mayores” within the systems (here is a organization map of the library systems).

As any other public library system BiblioRed offeres library services to the general public, but they also have specialized programs to reach hospitals, prisons, evacuation centers, and health centers. BiblioRed as an idea was conceived back in 1998, opening the doors to three mayor libraries in 2001; In 2008 they implemented the bibliobus (mobile library). Since the city implemented these public libraries they have been gathering awards and positive recognition, both locally and from abroad.

While I visited La biblioteca Parque El Tunal, I saw a number of facilities to help bring the community into the library; there is state of the art computer lad designed to assist patrons who deaf and/or blind; the library has a large auditorium that seats 230, and several training rooms which can be reserved by patrons; and there is a large children room with a collection that holds material in Spanish, English, and Braille. This room was full of kids when I was there. At the Virgilio Barco I ran into an awesome Salsa concert in full swing, a very moving photograph exhibit showing the effects of land mines in Colombia, and I happened upon the screening of short films about Bogota. Although I wasn’t able to visit the other major libraries in the system, it seems like they all have wonderful events going on all the time.

As a network, the library systems offers a number of online resources, including access to several mayor databases, recommendations for useful websites, and virtual reference services. All of these services are free, but to check items out, patrons must become “members” of the library, but at 5,000 Colombian pesos (about $2.50 dollars) I say it’s a great deal!

Hoy fui a visitar algunas de las bibliotecas que conforman la Bibliored en Bogotá. Bibliored es el sistemas de bibliotecas públicas de Bogotá, que están adscritas a la secretaria  de educación y está compuesto de una serie de bibliotecas mayores, otras pequeñas, así como un bibliobús. Hoy visite la Biblioteca Pública Parque El Tunal y la Biblioteca Pública Virgilio Barco, las cuales son considerados como “bibliotecas mayores” dentro del sistemas (aqui hay un mapa de la organización del sistemas bibliotecario).

Como cualquier otro sistema de bibliotecas públicas Bibliored ofrece servicios de biblioteca para el público en general pero también tienen programas especializados para llegar a hospitales, cárceles, centros de evacuación y centros de salud. BiblioRed como idea fue concebida en 1998, abriendo las puertas de tres bibliotecas mayores en 2001; En 2008 se implementó el bibliobús (biblioteca móvil). Desde que empezó a funcionar este sistema de bibliotecas públicas estas han ido acumulando premios y reconocimiento a nivel nacional e internacional.

Mientras estuve en La biblioteca Parque El Tunal vi una serie de instalaciones para ayudar a atraer a la comunidad a la biblioteca. Tienen un salón con la ultima tecnología diseñado para ayudar a usuarios sordos y ciegos, la biblioteca cuenta con un gran auditorio para 230 personas, varios cubiculos de estudio que pueden ser reservados por los usuarios, y hay una sala grande para niños con una colección que contiene materiales en Español, inglés, y braille. Esta habitación estaba llena de niños, cuando mientras visitaba la biblioteca. En la Virgilio Barco me encontré con un impresionante concierto de salsa en pleno apogeo, una exposición de fotografía muy conmovedora que muestra los efectos de las minas terrestres en Colombia, y me encontré con la proyección de cortometrajes sobre Bogotá. Aunque no pude visitar las demás bibliotecas del sistema parece que todas tienen eventos maravillosos para todo el mundo.

Como red, le sistemas de biblioteca ofrece una serie de recursos en línea, incluyendo el acceso a bases de datos, varias recomendaciones para los sitios web útiles, y servicios de referencia virtual. Todos estos servicios son gratuitos, pero para retirar material para llevarlo a casa los usuarios deben convertirse en “miembros” de la biblioteca, adquiriendo un carné de afiliado ¡pero por un costo de 5.000 pesos colombianos (alrededor de $ 2.50 dólares) esto es una ganga!
